Leper can be compared to Spongebob Squarepants from the show Spongebob and Sheen from the show Jimmy Neutron. Leper is like Spongebob because he is always happy. Both him and Spongebob are happy no matter what happens, and they are both very curious. Leper is like Sheen becasue he is very 'strange'. Leper and Sheen are both very curious as well, and they are both not influenced by what everyone else is doing. Leper is a srange yet interesting person, like Spongebob and Sheen.
Leper Lepellier is one of the most unique characters in the novel, A Separat Peace. For example, he takes time to "enjoy [himself]" (P. 95). He does this when skiing. He stops to look at trees. Leper does not originally get caught up in the war or school activities, but he gets lost in himself. In addition, Leper is just a "lone figure" (P. 98) to most of the boys. Leper does not do many things with them, and he minds his own business. He is looked down on by everyone else, but he does not care. Furthermore, "Leper always was the exact type when it came to details" (P. 172). Leper remembered absolutly everything about the 'tree incident.' He remembered where people were, what they were doing, and the "temperature" (P.172). The other boys reconized and admitted to this great skill. Elwin "Leper" Lepellier is a great character for a change of pace in this book.
Leper illustrates a theme of hope in A Separate Peace. This is because he is looked at as sane. As long as he is at Devon, even though he is rarely acknowledged, there is hope. This was really realized when he joined the army and turned out crazy. When he had "cracked," the war became real to everyone at Devon.
